Top 5 Long Range Weapons for Killing Zombies

The information below has been collected by Zombie Slayer Special Forces and hardcore zombie survivalists from across the world.

To identify and familiarize yourself with a variety of long range weapons and more specifically, rifles, one must also become familiar with that weapon’s inherant traits. These traits include weapon characteristics, availability, versatility, ergonomics, and ammunition availability.

Now imagine the zombie apocalypse is upon us, and consider these variables:

    1. Those around you are dying and reanimating from MAD flu / zombie flu exposure.
    1. Survivalists and every day citizens everywhere are arming themselves in panic.
  1. More deaths are occurring due to inexperience with weapons, and so allowing themselves to be in an otherwise avoidable, dangerous situation – wasting valuable ammunition in the process (attempting to shoot beyond their weapon’s distance capacity…or just being a horrible shot).

Survivalists, arm yourselves with thoughtful consideration. Familiarize yourself with versatile weapons that have more than one use…and when that moment of action strikes, don’t be scared to pull the trigger!

Below are the top 5 best long range weapons for killing zombies and surviving the zombie apocalypse.

    what about the M14?
if you put a high magnification scope or an ACOG scope on it it could shoot a good 200 yards at least

    • admin July 23, 2011 at 5:56 pm

The M14 was on the list of possibles…we’ll have to add it to the list.

      • Gleb December 15, 2015 at 1:36 am

I have a few suggestions for more effective combat platforms.
Here are my suggestions to be added to the list:
        -SCAR L or H or SSV (5.56, 7.62)
        -HK416 (5.56)
        -MP5 or K (9mm Parabellum)
        -G36C or K (5.56)
        -AUG A3 (5.56)
        -CZ-805 (5.56)
        -KelTec RFB (7.62)
        -Scout Elite (7.62)
        -Vector (.45 ACP)
        -AK-74M (5.45)
        -Galil (5.56)

The M-14 would be the same as the M1a good scope doped in your looking at a good 500 to 800 meter shots depending on how good you are.

    • Tessie October 12, 2011 at 6:57 pm

What liberating knowledge. Give me liberty or give me death.

  3. jesse August 26, 2011 at 6:15 am

i’m actually working on a custom revolver turned sniper,it started as your average magnum .357
added a custom shotgun style stock, extended the barrel to 1.5-2 ft(it’s adjustable),attached a variable zoom scope(max zoom being 25x),and boom you have a sniper

    • Ryan April 17, 2012 at 7:40 pm

save your cash. get a rifle. more range. better boom.

    • Samuel August 28, 2015 at 10:25 am

About that revolver sniper, be careful about the spray infornt of the cylinders. I’m going to assume that you’re going to have your hand infornt of the cylinder, so make sure to protect your hand. I’m not an expert on this, just something that caught my eye.

I would have to disagree with the M16/M4 being 1st. civilian versions only come in a 3 round burst, not fully automatic like the AK47. While the AK47 is not as accurate as the M4 it has a higher caliber at 7.62mm as opposed to the M4’s 5.56mm rounds. In the case of a zombie apocalypse once you fire rounds you alert all zobies to your location. Why not use something with more kick and is fully auto? The biggest perk of the AK47 is its reliability compared to the M4. You can drop the AK47 in the mud, dirt, sand, and snow and it will still fire. The M4 has to be protected like a whiny baby that it is. I have fired both weapons and would take the AK any day of the week. There is a reason the rest of the world favors the AK.

    • Mad Mark February 14, 2012 at 6:54 am

Manny, you say the M4 civilian model comes in a 3 round burst? I don’t think so. A class 3 license would be required and then you would have what the military would have. Civilian AR’s are semi auto only.

I agree with the robust nature of the AK, but if you want accuracy, the AR platform will put shine the AK any day. Besides, you don’t need a .30 cal weapon for zombie head shots.

      • MDS October 3, 2012 at 8:08 pm

I have both. Usually use my ARs. The aks are more reliable but not as accurate or customizable. The rest of the world uses aks because they are poor. If the SHTF tomorrow, I’d take my best AR. By the time I ran out of ammo or needed to clean it, there would be plenty of extra AKs laying around…

    • Jeff March 30, 2012 at 11:11 pm

I own both M-4 and AK-47’s. The M-4 is much more accurate and has better range but I prefer the AK up close- better penetration…

    • coy wyrick October 23, 2014 at 3:12 am

that’s because your an idiot many. My M4 became quite dirty over the course of a deployment and seemed to function fine. Well aimed accurate shots to the head is what will stop any zombie. So slow down your breathing shoot in that natural pause and quit acting like you know what your talking about. Real men shoot once and acquire the next target. Brought to you by your friendly neighborhood sniper and the United States Army ammunition conservation society.

  5. Mike February 1, 2012 at 9:20 pm

The #4 Dragunov Sniper Rifle is not 7.62x54R, it is the same as the AK47 and SKS. The russian Mosin Nagant fires 7.62x54R. Im surpried thats not on the list it shoots to 500m with iron sights and only $100 new

    • Jeff March 30, 2012 at 11:01 pm

The Dragonov does use the 7.62x54mm. The same as the Mosin. A simple google search could tell you that.

  6. Michael February 17, 2012 at 4:02 pm

Zombies come in packs……..or groves so a bolt action is only suffiicent if you are in a high position with no fear of being trapped or taken over. You are going to need to focus on multiple weapons to be more efficient and alot of ammo. The AR-15 with a acog scope would be my weapon of choice, you can take multiple targets fast at different ranges and reload less often while 223 ammo is cheap light weight and easily obtainable. For close range a high capacity pistol like a glock or a XP should suffice, as a last resort a machete would come in awful handy.

  7. Till March 1, 2012 at 1:17 pm

Think about ammo availability. Local police and the military in America use the AR platform. When they get over run plenty of 5.56 ammo to be recovered.

  8. Paul March 24, 2012 at 3:44 pm

If .303 British was a more common round over there,I would say that Lee Enfield No.4 could do with being on the list.Accurate, hard hitting, tough & reliable,fast/smooth bolt, excellent sights for Zombies and functions well in all climates.

  9. Jeff March 30, 2012 at 11:03 pm

I used the M1A in sniper school way back when. I was nailing targets at 1000 yards. Good optics is a must.

  10. Ryan April 17, 2012 at 7:38 pm

    @Manny Garza
just a first thing to kick this off… the civilian version of the M-16/M-4 is NOT only a three round burst… they are semi-auto. secondly, with some parts and hard work, you can make it full auto. also you could find the 5.56 ammo more frequently than the AK’s 7.62. Also IF YOU DROP AN AK IT WILL JAM!!!!!!! even just holding them wrong while shooting can jam them. if you want to get the zombies as they come, use a .308 and don’t get close and personal. Though I also disagree on the M-16/M-4 being #1, you are just flat out wrong. Thanks.

  11. austin June 23, 2012 at 8:43 pm

what about a 8mm mouser i reload ammo for them i make brass for it out of 30-06, it would work it deadly

  12. jrod July 28, 2012 at 11:38 pm

I have an ak and love it. Has not jammed on me even once, and I shoot it very regularly. Might not be as effective as the ar in longer distances, but with a nice optic it is as good to 400 yds as it is at 100. Has a lot of punch.

  13. Holyfenix November 3, 2012 at 5:32 pm

This list needs a lot of work. SO much misinformation on here.
AR-15 generally come with 30 round magazines in most states (25?). Also the second pic is of an airsoft gun…
The Remy in .22 had an effective range of 1-200 yards in not windy conditions. windy puts it to about 50-75 yards.
The Remington would be better chambered in .308 (or 7.62×51), and is an easy 1000 yard point target (-_-) capable gun with some practice, same goes for the m24 and the m1a.
The Barret chambered in .416 is more like 2000 meters and is a better round then the .50bmg
And to top it off the rifle pictured for the M24 is an Accuracy international L916A1 most likely chambered in .338 Lapua with that muzzle break.

    • Aaron November 7, 2012 at 8:55 am

      Holyfenix ,
      1. Your claim to “Misinformation” is also misinformation.. everything on that list is pretty much up for debate based on circumstances.
      2. AR-15 Mags come in anything from 1-100.
      3. A Remy .22L is effective at up to a mile.. a .22 in which you refer, is not.
      4. I agree with your comment about the .308.. but ammunition in a world ending apocalyptic zombie invasion would be hard to find. And for the record, someone trying to sound like they know about Manly things like guns, probably shouldn’t use girly emojis like [(-_-)].
      5. No one in their right mind is going to shoot a .50 let alone a .416. and to my recollection, the .416 is a European/NATO round that isn’t readily available in the states.. and lets face it.. no one cares about the rest of the world come zombie killin time.
      6. The M24 is the Father of the L916A1. You’re obviously playing too much COD.

  14. Al cutright November 22, 2014 at 9:13 pm

I’ll take my 1903 springfield an distance, Its just a matter of being good with which one you choose.I’ll take the 2000 meter shot over 50 to 100 yrds any time

  15. brian March 20, 2016 at 1:39 am

im going to use SR-25, Vss vintorez, ferfrans PDW and tavor tar 21

  16. Remington 700 Shooter August 9, 2017 at 1:30 pm

My vote is for Remington 700. Awesome rifle with many upgrades available.

  17. jeezdude March 1, 2018 at 3:26 pm

    what about the 50 bmg
