High school prepares for the zombie apocalypse
Lonnie Smith, a health teacher at Western High School, got a full-on zombie makeover after winning a Knott’s Scary Farm Halloween Haunt “Monster Makeover” contest.
His students said that, because they appreciated his teaching style so much, he deserved to be treated to a new look…which happened to be a zombie cowboy with open sore, blood oozing from his face. The future of the world is a bright one, indeed.
Jerry Paxton, Knott’s makeup artist, went to the campus to apply the zombie makeup treatment (rubberized glue and fake blood) to Smith, Principal Daniel Lunt and student Alissa Sallee, the senior who co-produced and submitted their video for the contest.
Paxton said that he gave them an extreme zombie make-up job or as he says, “the most advanced level of decay”.
It was in front of 2,300 students Thursday, during a homecoming assembly, that the 3 zombies ‘terrorized’ the school auditorium, bringing zombie awareness to the masses.

World Zombie Day – October 8th
That’s right – tomorrow, October 8th is World Zombie Day!…and yes, zombies are the only monster to have a day dedicated to their awesomeness
(and by awesomeness, I mean a flesh-eating, completely possible apocalyptic nightmare in which all of humanity is at risk of extinction)! Ummmm…anyways, World Zombie Day isn’t just about celebrating zombies and the zombie culture – it’s about doing something good.
Zombie fans and zombie genre fans come together in an international effort to alleviate world hunger. As always, all participants of the World Zombie Day zombie walks are encouraged to bring any food item they can that is non-perishable as a donation to local food banks.

Zombie Virus via Rabies-Flu Hybrid
Ker Than, of National Geographic News, reports that a genetic tweak, though highly improbable, could create a mutant rabies virus.
Referencing such well known zombie movies as 28 Days Later and I Am Legend , Ker
explains that certain viruses can, in fact, induce the aggressive, zombie-like behavior, displayed in these movies.
This only strengthens our argument at 401AK47, where we have likened the possible zombie virus, which we call The MAD Flu, to a mutated rabies virus as well. Ker reports that
rabies – “a viral disease that infects the central nervous system—can drive people to be violently mad, according to Samita Andreansky, a virologist at the University of Miami’s Miller School of Medicine in Florida…”
He goes on to say that if one were to “Combine rabies with the ability of a flu virus to spread quickly through the air…you might have the makings of a zombie apocalypse.” Viruses generally have high mutations rates – some being copying mistakes during gene replication, but mostly “as a means of evading or bypassing the defenses of their hosts.”
